In our effort to produce top dressage prospects, having the best mares is the highest priority of our program. Understanding that your dressage horse is the result of their “total” genetic constitution is a very important concept that many folks just don’t realize. In order to have a foal born with superior ability, both parents need the depth of pedigree to support it through the rigors of upper level dressage. All of our mares are Gold Medal premium mares, representing some of the best of Hanoverian, Holsteiner, Oldenburg, Westphalian, Zweibrucker, and Trakkhener lineages. These premium dam lines are our number one criteria for selection and then each mare must themselves be extremely athletic, have exceptional gaits, and possess the wonderful temperament and trainability necessary for success in competition. We limit our broodmare numbers to 3 or 4 a year, and carefully select stallions who we believe are not only themselves wonderful, but also who’s genes will further compliment the dams’. The goal of the various combinations is to progressively produce offspring that are actually superior to both of their superb parents. Understanding the genetic factors behind lineages for dressage has been a life long education, one that very much continues today- because I believe we can always improve in our continual quest to design an even better sport horse!
